Long time ago, Abin Sur of the Green Lantern Corps selected Hal Jordan to become a Green lantern and protect Sector 2814. Now, Hal Jordan has returned to Edwards Air Force base but things have changed. His old buddy Shane Sellers is married and with children. And Hal will have to go through flight school if he wants to fly again. Via his power ring, John Stewart informs Hal of a ship in orbit around Earth. Together they investigate. Not only is the ship entirely yellow, but it also looks as if it was made for a one way trip. In Barstow California, a couple of Air Force soldiers are driving a truck with Top Secret truck. After the truck leaves, a strange visitor appears. Its primary directive is to find predecessor. Its secondary command is to terminate all life. Later, Hal returns to his home in Coast City. Despite government incentives, only a thousand people have moved back. Hal is visited by his brother Jim, who is freaked out by Coast City and thinks Hal should leave. Suddenly, an airplane flies past, dangerously out of control. Hal changes back to Green Lantern and helps pull the aircraft down, saving the pilot, who happens to be a woman. The damaged plane also reveals to have alien technology inside. Meanwhile, the truck continues towards Edwards as whatever is inside awakens and says: “No man escapes.”

Seventeen miles out of Edwards Air Force base, a strange visitor destroys a bus load of people. At the air force base, Hal Jordan (aka Green Lantern) investigates the X-2020, which has been built from extra terrestrial components. General Jonathan Stone arrives to tell Jordan that the plane is classified information and the air force will take care of it. Jordan recalls the time when he took a joy ride and “Major” Stone refused to discharge him, so Jordan punched him on the jaw. Meanwhile, the truck with its strange cargo continues to get closer to Edwards. Back in Coast City, Hal’s brother tries to convince Hal to leave Coast City. At the base, Hal learns that the X-2020 is being kept in Hanger 44. Just then the truck with the cargo drives by and the ring alerts Jordan to a threat. From within the truck, a mangled and beaten Manhunter appears. Jordan attacks, but is sent flying into Hanger 44. Inside, he sees Abin Sur’s old space ship. Just as the Manhunter grabs hold of Hal, he is saved by the strange visitor, who then destroys the Manhunter, who is considered old and obsolete, by order of the Grandmaster. The strange visitor then reveals himself to be a Manhunter and tells Jordan that Sector 2814 belongs to them.

Flight Delay

Fecha: 2005.09| Créditos: Geoff Johns (Guiones), Carlos Pacheco (Dibujos)| Edición española: Green Lantern Especial (Planeta) #2, Green Lantern de Geoff Johns núm. 01 (ECC).

At Edwards Air Force Base in Hanger 44, a new and improved Manhunter is attempting to destroy an older model Manhunter. Hal Jordan attempts to interceded and stop them both. During the fight, the new Manhunter reveals a power battery for a skull, a battery that easily drains Jordan’s ring of its power. Without sufficient ring power to follow the Manhunters, Hal demands a jet, but General Jonathan Stone refuses. Hal punches him in the jaw. Stone relents. In the sky, the new Manhunter is able to set off the self-destruct system on the old Manhunter before turning its attention to Hal, whose jet spirals out of control. Hal jumps free just as it explodes. He then grabs the new Manhunter and uses the battery skull to power his ring and remove its head from its body. Hal finds the old Manhunter and takes it to outer space. Just before it explodes, the old Manhunter feels emotion: fear of his upcoming death. The next morning, Hal goes to visit General Stone to apologize for previous actions. Stone accepts and tells Hal he’s been hit in the jaw twice and both felt the same, so he welcomes Green Lantern to the Air Force. Later, Hal wonders if fear controls everyone but decides not as he sees his brother Jim and his family returning to live in Coast City. On the Artificial Planet of Biot, the Manhunters need the Green Lantern Corps to return, they need the rings, and no one will escape them, not even Hal Jordan…

She believes the use of lethal force, as approved by the Guardians, was justified, but the Alpha Lanterns determine her actions were murder. The Alpha Lanterns expel Laira from the corps. The Guardians then enact the second law: lethal force has been authorized against all of Green Lantern enemies. Elsewhere, the Guardians learn of Agent Orange. In the Binary Star System, the Controllers decide they need to follow the orange light to find a way to defeat the Green Lantern Corps. Meanwhile, Laira is being escorted to her home when a red power ring finds her because she has great rage. She becomes a Red Lantern.

Rage of the Red Lanterns: Part 2

On Ysmault, Atrocitus has Sinestro crucified to a symbol of the Red Lantern Corps. Atrocitus mocks Sinestro, saying that he failed Abin Sur and allowed himself feel fear of his prophecies. Laira, in a rage, makes a run for Sinestro, but Atrocitus swats her aside, saying he will live until every last droop of blood has been drained and be transformed into Red Power Rings. Atroctitus tells Sinestro to look at the Red Lanterns, all victims of the Sinestro Corps, who will destroy everything Sinestro has held dear: Korugar, the Sinestro Corps, and the Green Lanterns. Sinestro…is unimpressed. He derides the Red Lanterns as little more than uncontrollable animals, and that Atrocitus’ attempts to frighten him are failing. Back at the sight of the ambush, Hal Jordan inquires as to the identity of his savior. He explains that he is Saint Walker, first of the Blue Lanterns, who was sent to rescue Sinestro from death. He also explains that Hal’s power ring is being charged by his emotional aura, and will remain charged as long as he hopes for Hal. And Saint Walker always hopes. Suddenly, Kilowog and John move to attack Saint Walker. He says that they have been infected with the Red Lanterns rage, but he will be able to calm them. Walker summons up an image of katma Tui, John’s long dead wife, and heals him. Salakk, regaining his senses, says that the Guardians will need to speak with Walker, but Walker says that will have to wait until he and Hal finish their mission. As the two fly off, John murmurs that the universe said that he would see Katma Tui again. Hal and Saint Walker arrive on Odym, headquarters of the Blue Lantern Corps. It is a beautiful world where life is uninhibited and unrestrained. The closer Hal gets to the Blue Central Power Battery, however, the more charged his ring becomes, threatening to implode. Walker takes him to Ganthet and Sayd, who are speaking with Warth of Sector 2 on his role and destiny. Warth understands his fate and accepts the Ring, becoming the Blue Lantern of Sector 2. Hal and Ganthet then talk about the Blue Lantern Corps and Sinestro. Ganthet wants Hal to save Sinestro, but Hal replies that Sinestro is beyond saving. Ganthet reminds Hal that many once said the same of him, but Hal snaps that his actions were because of Parallax, while Sinestro made his choices of his own free will. Ganthet admits that it is unlikely anything could make Sinestro repent of his actions, but says that Hal and Sinestro are important to the universe to survive the Blackest Night, and that throughout their time together, Ganthet may not have always been clear with Hal, but he has always been honest with him. Hal finally agrees to help rescue Sinestro. On Zamaron, several members of the Sinestro Corps are still trapped in crystals. Fatality’s Qwardian ring then announces that she is being infected, until the ring turns into a Star Sapphire ring. Now a member of the Star Sapphire Corps, Fatality emerges from his crystal, and instructs her ring to find John Stewart. As Hal and the Blue Lanterns begin their search, Hal is uncomfortable with working with the two, as he can’t contact John or any of the other Green Lanterns. Saint Walker explains that the blue light sometimes interferes with the other rings, but Hal wonders if that is intentional. Hal’s ring suddenly announces that a star they are passing is about to supernova, which will wipe out a planet of three billion. Saint Walker and Warth tell them to leave it to them, and they begin meditating. As Hal looks on, the star is deaged by over seven billion years, and turned into a blue star. Saint Walker explains that they did not use any of their power, but instead used the hope of the people on the planet to fuel the conversion. Saint Walker tells Hal that he must learn the power of hope, because Ganthet has made it clear to them that he intends to offer Hal leadership of the Blue Lantern Corps. On Ysmault, Atrocitus has become determined to find a way to terrify Sinestro. Using the heart of a dead Sinestro Corps member, Atrocitus preforms a blood ritual to learn the secrets of Sinestro’s heart. Atrocitus says that his ritual succeeded, and despite all Sinestro’s precautions, Atrocitus has discovered the truth—Sinestro has a daughter. And for the first time, Sinestro, the master of fear, looks afraid.

At Ferris Aircraft, Carol Ferris calls Hal Jordan’s apartment, but the phone is answered by Cowgirl. She offers to leave a message for Hal, but Carol tells her not to. On Ysmault, Hal Jordan is struggling to fight the influence of the Red Power Ring that has grafted itself onto his hand, but is unable to, and attacks Saint Walker and Warth. Hal continues to fight, but the Red Ring continues screaming into his mind about Laira’s death. His willpower is strong enough that he can actually form constructs out of the red energy. Atrocitus mocks Sinestro, saying that he has failed his student, but Sinestro counters that Hal stopped being his protege a long time ago. Still strapped into a construct of an electric chair, Hal throws the switch and begins slowly electrocuting Sinestro to death. Saint Walker pleads with Hal to stop, but Atrocitus breaks his wrist, revealing the weakness of the Blue Lantern rings: for all its power, hope is little more than prayers and goodwill, whereas willpower is action. The same is true for the Blue Lantern Rings, which can only be activated with a Green Lantern Ring present. Walker admits this, but he refuses to be beaten down. Saying all will be well, Walker places his ring upon Jordan’s hand. The Blue Lantern Ring immediately begins overriding the Red Power Ring’s influence, such as restarting Jordan’s heart and blood replication. Tearing off the Red Lantern uniform, Jordan, wearing a Blue/Green/Red hybrid uniform, attacks Atrocitus, and the Red Ring on his hand explodes, shocking Atrocitus. With his Green Lantern Ring active, the Blue Lantern Rings reactivate, and immediately begin draining power from the Qwardian Power Rings. The Sinestro Corps have enough power left to free Sinestro and escape to the Antimatter Universe. Saint Walker and Warth prepare to follow the Sinestro Corps, but are stopped when they see Hal wearing some sort of Blue/Green Lantern uniform. Hal demands to know what has happened, and Saint Walker admits that he does not know. At Ferris Aircraft, Carol tells Tom Kalmacku that she’s going to take Hal Jordan’s old plane for a spin. Watching from afar, the Zamarons say that Carol does not need the love of Hal Jordan, only the light of the Star Sapphires. On Qward, Sinestro recieves a situation report on the Sinestro Corps from Romat-Ru and Tekik: not only is Mongul II attempting to usurp Sinestro’s leadership, but the Zamarons have been capturing female Sinestro Corps members and converting them into Star Sapphires. These losses, coupled with the Blue Lanterns ability to drain the Qwardian Power Rings and the Red Lanterns vendetta against them, have left the Sinestro Corps in a precarious position. Fortunately, Sinestro has an edge against Mongul. Striking the ground beneath him, Sinestro reveals a secondary Qwardian Central Power Battery, which has been powering the Qwardian Rings since the original was destroyed during the Sinestro Corps War. As Sinestro and his loyalists recharge their rings, Sinestro orders them to gather other faithful Sinestro Corps members and launch a rescue attempt on Zamaron. Once they’ve completed that mission, they are to gather on the dark side of Daxam’s moon and wait for Sinestro, who has a «family affair» to settle on Korugar. Once he’s finished at home, Sinestro will join his loyalists, and they will show Mongul the true master of fear. On Okaara, the Controllers continue their search for the orange light. In a deserted forest, the Controllers find a cavern sealed off with a strange symbol upon it. The Controllers believe that the orange light the seek is in the cavern, and with it, they will have a power source to build their own army with. However, deep underground, someone tells them to go away, then begins screaming that the Guardians promised it would be his. Meanwhile, on Earth, a Star Sapphire Ring flies into the plane Carol Ferris is flying. On the dark side of Ysmault, Atrocitus performs a blood ritual to see the homeworld of the Blue Lantern Corps. And on Odym, Ganthet and Sayd speak with a new potential recruit. In the bowels of Oa, Scar is aware of the events on Earth, Odym, Okaara, and Ysmault, and is quite pleased, knowing that the soldiers for the War of Light are being gathered…ready to be consumed by the Black…

On Okaara, the Controllers enter the underground cavern they have discovered. Inside, they find evidence that someone resides in what one of them charitably describes as a «palace»: there is a banquet of rotten food, but someone was eating it. Elsewhere, someone who is well aware of the Controllers history–the Darkstars, the Beta Men, and the Effigy Corps–rants about how the Guardians promised it would all be his. Heading further into the palace, the Controllers discover an Orange Power Battery. As one of them picks it up, Orange Lanterns appear to burst forth from the Battery, cutting down the Controllers. As one of them picks it up, he says that the Guardians have broken their treaty. On Odym, Hal Jordan is desperately trying to remove the Blue Lantern Ring that Saint Walker placed upon him. Meeting up with Ganthet and Sayd, Hal thanks the Guardians for all they have done, but says he has no intention of joining the Blue Lantern Corps. Ganthet explains that he never intended to offer Hal a Blue Ring, but wanted Hal to lead the Blue Lanterns as a Green Lantern. Ganthet also explains that the only way for Hal to remove the Blue Ring is to use it to hope for something. Unable to get help from the Guardians, Hal leaves, deciding to resume his search for Sinestro, but soon recieves a recall order from the Guardians. Ganthet assigns the Blue Lanterns to continue recruitment and a new mission to seek out the wielders of the Indigo light. As for Hal and Sinestro, they will meet again when the skies turn black. Meanwhile, Stel is pursuing a Sinestro Corps member through Sector 2828, but as they reach the Vega system, Stel decides to continue pursuing when the Sinestro Corps member taunts him. Just then, a giant head with tentacles appears and eats the Sinestro. The Orange leader orders his minion to brand Stel. On Oa, the Guardians are outraged at Ganthet’s harnessing of the blue light, and furious that Jordan did not report it sooner. They also announce that the Alpha Lanterns will be sent to exterminate the Red Lantern Corps. The Guardians order Hal to turn the ring over to them, and when they learn that he is unable to remove it, they resort to attacking it with green light. The ring survives the attack and accuses the Guardians of having no hope. John Stewart cuts in and tells the Guardians to ease up on Hal, but then Salakk arrives, carrying a damaged Stel. The Guardians are shocked when they see the Orange symbol on Stel, but everyone is taken aback when Agent Orange, the wielder of the orange light, appears in a hologram bursting from the brand on Stel. He accuses the Guardians of betraying the pact between them and violating his sanctuary. The Guardians insist that the Controllers broke all affiliation with them billions of years ago, but Agent Orange refuses to listen and declares the treaty null and void. The Guardians will submit to his demands or face the wrath of the Orange Lantern Corps. Scar then blasts the image of Agent Orange, saying that the Guardians hope that he would remain content was useless. She propses a new law to the Book of Oa: repealling the ban on the Vega system. She also suggests that it is time to the Guardians themselves got involved with the War of Light.

In the ruins of Xanshi, Fatality thinks about her life. She spent years training under the Warlords of Okaara and was offplanet when John Stewart failed to stop a blink bomb from destroying Xanshi. The loss of her mother, brother, and homeworld made a hole in her heart, and she swore revenge on all Green Lanterns. Now, thanks to the Zamarons, she is going to do something she has never done: forgive John Stewart. She instructs her ring to take her to Okaara. On Oa, the Guardians debate on whether or not to end the Vega system ban. The last time they faced the orange light, it nearly drained their power. It also risks the pacts with the Psions and the Spider Guild, but Scar is insistant that Agent Orange must be stopped and that they must go as well. One of the Guardians, however, notes that Scar’s insistence on facing the Lantern Corps has so far done nothing. A team of Green Lanterns head out under the Guardians, but Scar remains on Oa, as she is ill. In Sector 3454, Gretti, the Green Lantern of Sector 2828, is informed by Salakk to return to his home sector to greet the Guardians on Okaara. Gretti is less than pleased, as his people are nomadic in nature and rarely stay in one place for long. Additionally, all Gretti did in Sector 2828 was chase criminals to the Vega system and be forced to let them escape. Nonetheless, Gretti complies with his orders and departs for Okaara. Meanwhile, panic sweeps across the Vega system as the Guardians inform the planets inhabitants that the ban on Vega has been repealed. Slavers, murderers, smugglers, and all the like begin attempts to flee before the Green Lanterns arrive. Several ships are stopped by the Lanterns who are passing through to Okaara. Some of the Lanterns comment that Voz will be busy in the coming weeks. However, Agent Orange takes priority for the moment. Hal, who is on the team so that the Guardians can see the power of the Blue Lantern Ring, talks with John about how the ring keeps distracting him. John wonders if the Blue ring can see the future, as it told John he would see Katma Tui again. Suddenly, the Blue Lantern Ring takes over completely. Hal sees images of his friends in the Justice League, Carol Ferris, and Cowgirl. He decided to hope for world peace, but the ring rejects his hope as insincere, and Hal crash lands on Okaara. Gretti is already there, with a sarcastic welcome for Hal’s crash landing. He inquires about the ring, and says that Hal’s claim of a long story are familiar aspects of the Earthmen. Gretti’s sarcasm quickly takes a back seat as his ring begins charging beyond 100%, and the Guardians adivse Gretti to keep his distance from Hal. Gretti welcomes the Guardians to Okaara, and tells them about the Forest of Weeds, where no one ventures as it is dangerous. The Guardians destroy the weeds and reveal the palace of the Orange Lanterns. They instruct Larfleeze come out without his rings and surrendur. Larfleeze tells them to go away, and when they refuse, he releases his Orange Lanterns, which include the Controllers that disturbed Larfleeze. However, the Orange Lanterns begin draining the energy from the constructs of both the Green Lanterns and the Guardians. Even Torquemada’s magics are drained as well. Four of the Orange Lanterns grab Gretti and kill him. His ring initates a sector scan for a replacement, but one of the Orange Lanterns eats the ring and begins absorbing it. In it’s place, and orange construct of Gretti appears, now as an Orange Lantern. However, the Orange Lanterns soon discover that they cannot drain the power Hal’s blue ring, and vines quickly drag Hal below ground. In the underground palace, Hal Jordan comes face to face with Agent Orange, the leader of the Orange Lantern Corps, who has never seen a blue ring before—and he wants it…

On Okaara, Red Lantern Atrocitus is fighting Orange Lantern Larfleeze and his constructs. As they fight, Black Lanterns of those killed by Larfleeze join the battle. Using the orange battery Larfleeze knocks out Atrocitus. The Black Lanterns absorb the Orange constructs, leaving Larfleeze alone. He asks for help. Saint Walker appears, along with Hal Jordan, Indigo-1, Sinestro, and Carlo Ferris (aka the Light Brigade) and Guardians Sayd and Ganthet. Together, they dispatch the Black Lanterns. Larfleeze claims the Guardians betrayed him. Ganthet tells the other it wasn’t him, but admits the Guardians, led by Scar, attempted to extinguish the blue and orange lights to stop the War of Light. It backfired and actually started the War of Light. Atrocitus wakes up and charges Sinestro, claiming it was Sinestro who started the war of light. Saint Walker stops Atrocitus with the blue light, calming Atrocitus with the hope of his future. Sinestro asks Atrocitus for help to destroy the Black Lanterns. Atrocitus refuses. Suddenly, they witness the death of Damage on Earth. The black power rings have reached 100% power levels. Indigo-1 tells them the Black Lanterns have entered the next phase. They need to find the source of the black rings. They travel to Sector 666, the home of Atrocitus, which is nothing. Atrocitus blames the Guardians. He blames the Guardians for the War of Light, as well. He agrees to help kill the Black Lantern, but afterwards, he vows to kill the Guardians. Larfleeze also aggress on the condition he gets his own Guardian. Sayd agrees to become his Guardian. With the Light Brigade assembled, the group heads out to find Nekron…
