Dreadknight and the daughter of creation
Fecha: 1977.09| Créditos: Bill Mantlo (Guiones), George Tuska (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #21.

Remember the totally lame first season IM cartoon? Remember the lame Dreadknight (among others)? Well, here’s his origin! And — it’s lame, too!! Saving grace: Tuska’s pencils (what else?)!!

Iron Man v1 #103
Run for the money
Fecha: 1977.10| Créditos: Bill Mantlo (Guiones), George Tuska (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #21.

Every hand against him
Fecha: 1977.12| Créditos: Bill Mantlo (Guiones), George Tuska (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #21.

Stark/IM refuses to take on Midas for his company and as a result, Jack of Hearts, the Guardsman, the Wraith and others have to «twist his arm!» And hey — check out Tony’s cheesy equestrian get-up!

Iron Man v1 #106
Then there came a war
Fecha: 1978.01| Créditos: Bill Mantlo (Guiones), George Tuska (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #21.

Jasper Sitwell threatening Madame Masque! He won’t help the «others» fight Midas for Stark International! It’s all-out war with IM, the Guardsman and Jack of Hearts against Midas and his flying fortress full of flunkies (say that three times fast!)! Tuska’s art is its usual excellent stuff, and the story flies along, but the dialogue is a bit cheesy — but the dialogue from Midas himself, sir, offsets it. And the all-out battle against a fleet of Iron Men adds a nice topping to the whole affair!

Iron Man v1 #107
And, in the end
Fecha: 1978.02| Créditos: Bill Mantlo (Guiones), Keith Pollard (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #22.

The final chapter in the Midas skirmish! IM battles his own remote-controlled armor! Jack of Hearts! A Marianne Rodgers-Tony Stark relationship recap! And the last gasp of….Midas? (Nah — we know Kurt B. is bringing him back!) Art note: Keith Pollard is definitely a step down from George T.

IM and Jack of Hearts battle the Rigellian Colonizers for the life of a planet…? Featuring: the Punisher (no, not him — Galactus’ tough-guy!)! A pretty cool storyline despite below-par artwork. Extra repulsor for the IM and J. of H. schematics/summaries on pages 22-23!

Iron Man v1 #111
The man, the metal and the mayhem
Fecha: 1978.06| Créditos: Bill Mantlo (Guiones), Keith Pollard (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #22.

Iron Man and Jack of Hearts are caught in an intergalactic battle between the little big-headed dudes from Rigel and the animal guys from Wundagore. I thought this whole story to be LAME !!! The artwork’s not too bad, but if you never read it, you won’t miss a thing.

Iron Man v1 #112

Fecha: 1978.07| Créditos: Bill Mantlo (Guiones), Keith Pollard (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #22.

Iron Man and ‘ol Jack of Hearts team up with the Knights of Wundergore against the Rigellian Colonizers! The (Galactus) Punisher is dispatched to Earth and only IM can thwart him! Whoever «A.» Alacala is, his inks definitely help Pollard (who’s lame).

Fecha: 1978.08| Créditos: Bill Mantlo (Guiones), Keith Pollard, Herb Trimpe (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #22, Marvel Gold. Iron Man: A la merced de mis amigos (Panini).

Yep — the good ‘ol Unicorn is back, the pawn of some «Other!» The action’s pretty decent, although Trimpe’s figures are always too stiff. Rubenstein helps him out on this.

Iron Man v1 #114
The menace of Arsenal
Fecha: 1978.09| Créditos: Bill Mantlo (Guiones), Keith Giffen (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #22, Marvel Gold. Iron Man: A la merced de mis amigos (Panini).

The Avengers guest star as Unicorn gets free and unleashes the menace of … Arsenal! Oops, the title already says that! Whoever Keith Griffin and Bruce «D.» are («Bruce D.??»), they do a very decent job with the art chores.

Iron Man has to stop Soviet fighter jets from downing the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier! He also has to figure how to stop S.H.I.E.L.D. from taking over Stark International!! Great moment: The splash page (pg. 15) is a true classic! HUH? Dept.: Why would the Russians launch an ICBM at the helicarrier?? Don’t the «I» and «C» of ICBM stand for «Inter-Continental??» Oops.

A tip of the hat to the classic Avengers tale where Ant-Man journeyed inside the android Vision’s innards. This time, Ant-Man (Scott Lang, not Hank Pym) must venture inside IM’s armor, which has frozen stiff after a climactic battle with the Hulk!

Iron Man v1 #134
The challenge
Fecha: 1980.05| Créditos: David Michelinie, Bob Layton (Guiones), Jerry Bingham (Dibujos)| Edición española: BIBLIOTECA MARVEL: IRON MAN #25, Marvel Gold. Iron Man: El héroe interior (Panini).

Well, the artwork is great as usual with Layton doing the finished art. The story opens with Iron Man running his armor through some test since the recent control of Justin Hammer over the armor. Most of the story involves Tony getting together with the ever lovely Bethany Cabe at dinner. The story ends with the Titanium Man landing in NYC looking for IM!!!

Iron Man v1 #158
Moms
Fecha: 1982.05| Créditos: Dennis O’Neil (Guiones), Carmine Infantino (Dibujos)| Edición española: IRON MAN (v1) #14, Marvel Gold. Iron Man: El Enemigo Interior  (Panini).

Fecha: 1982.06| Créditos: Roger McKenzie (Guiones), Paul Smith (Dibujos)| Edición española: IRON MAN (v1) #14-15, Marvel Gold. Iron Man: El Enemigo Interior  (Panini).

IM battles Diablo (what else?). Paul Smith is a heck of an artist, but he doesn’t do Shellhead very well. However, there is a very cool battle scene where IM has to battle his old armors which have been animated by the master of alchemy!

Iron Man v1 #160
A cry of beasts

The insidious influence of Obadiah Stane is felt for the first time when one of his undercover agents distributes some harmless-looking headsets to the Stark International staff. Forget «Paul is dead»– this backmasking is going to result in wholesale slaughter! Not a bad story despite mediocre art, inaccurate, out-of-nowhere WW II vintage aircraft guest appearances, and the hokey «Walkman of Death» plot device

Iron Man v1 #163
