Cassie Sandsmark (Wonder Girl) meanwhile gets a detention for talking in class. In Gateway City, policeman Mike Schorr realises that the Sandsmarks are being targetted, contacting Helena only just in time to get her away from the museum where she works. Meanwhile, the people controlling the Silver Swan have to pump more and more negative psychic imagery into her to keep her doing their bidding. As Wonder Woman is alerted to what’s going on, and makes her way towards Gateway, Cassie’s school comes under attack from the Swan, who Cassie recognises. When Wonder Woman arrives on the scene, she too recognises the Silver Swan: it is Vanessa Kapatelis. Not listening to a word Diana says, Vanessa rants about how she’s become just like her friend. She manages to temporarily knock Wonder Woman out, which is the cue for Sebastian, the man in charge of controlling her to go through the ritual which will transform him into the Cheetah. When Diana wakes up, Vanessa reveals that the biggest source of her anger was the fact that she didn’t get to become Wonder Girl. The new, male Cheetah, arrives on the scene, to Diana’s confusion, and he and the new Silver Swan are taken away by Circe, who promises to see Wonder Woman again if she survives the coming conflict with Imperiex. Distraught, Wonder Woman is then contacted by the Martian Manhunter who tells her that she is desperately needed.

Having heard that her daughter Diana is injured, Hippolyta anxiously searches for her on the Paradocs space arc vessel. Using herbs supplied by the Amazon healer Epione, Hippolyta is able to make progress. The vessel then comes under attack from two Imperiex probes – Green Lantern (also injured) seals the hull breaches, and Diana goes missing, wanting to save the vessel. Hippolyta will not let her, and goes outside herself to fight the probes. One of them is ripped in half by the unbreakable lassoo which she has borrowed from her daughter, but they are able to launch a ‘hollower’ before the explosion, which heads straight for Athens. While Diana gives Green Lantern the support he needs to mend the hull breaches, Hippolyta battles to stop the hollower from destroying Athens. As Hippolyta’s skin begins to blister and burn from the effort, Diana comes to try and help her, or preferably take her place, but the other probe interferes. Desperate to prove that she is worthy of the name Wonder Woman, Hippolyta grapples with the probe, eventually causing it and the hollower to explode. From far away, Superman sees the explosion and flies in. Here he finds Diana, unsteady on her feet, but protected from the worst by the bracelets of Aegis she has always worn. Hippolyta, however, has fared much worse, her skin a mass of burns. As she breathes her last, Diana desperately tries to convey to her that she saved Athens and that she is after all, worthy of the name Wonder Woman. However, she fears that the last thing Hippolyta will have remembered before her death is Diana telling her to leave the struggle against the hollower, saying ‘you’re not Wonder Woman’…

Fecha: 2001.10| Créditos: Phil Jimenez (Guiones), Phil Jimenez (Dibujos)| Edición española: PARAISO PERDIDO; GRANDES AUTORES DE WONDER WOMAN: PHIL JIMÉNEZ – LA BRUJA Y LA GUERRERA.
The face of the conflict has changed greatly – Imperiex is seemingly destroyed and Brainiac-13 briefly turned the allies against one another before they realised they were facing his new Warworld. He is draining Apokolips of energy and is sending an energy tendril towards Earth to do the same there and Wonder Woman has an idea what might be big enough to block it… The Amazons are devastated by the news that their former queen is dead, and vow to do anything in this war to avenge her. They maneuver Paradise Island into space to block the tendril further and, using the technology of the Wonder-dome, take the battle into the heavens themselves, co-ordinated by Steve Trevor. Old emnities have to be put aside – the tribes of Amazons must even accept help from the minions of the dread Apokolips in this battle. On Apokolips itself, Darkseid is in despair at the state of his world, powerless, his own strength sapped. He is given a chance for help by Wonder Woman… As Fury, Starfire and others focus their strengths on attack, the Amazons do something distasteful – they pray to Darkseid, focussing their prayers through Wonder Woman and then Raven, knowing that their prayers will restore the deity’s strength. Just as his full power returns, they hear that an all-out assault on Brainiac-13 will release the energies of Imperiex (absorbed by Warworld) once more. The technology of Apokolips is needed along with a magical conduit. Wonder Woman calls on the aid of Troia and Tempest. The Amazon’s power is combined with that of Darkseid and channeled through Tempest to create a Boom Tube that takes Imperiex AND Brainiac to the dawn of time where they explode harmlessly. With the war over and Apokolips about to depart to the place it came from, Diana confronts Darkseid on his world. She tells him that when Raven linked them, Darkseid was ‘infected’ with a part of Wonder Woman’s own soul. The evil God may now have to grapple with the concepts of compassion and love…

Wonder Woman and a Superman transformed into a strange Doomsday-esque hybrid by Circe, battle each other in a brutal slugfest in Times Square, while Circe broadcasts the fight across the entire world. Meanwhile the other heroines battle the numerous villainesses running loose throughout New York. Although the cover by Jim Lee might give the impression Wonder Woman deals with Superman easily, Diana in fact takes one hell of a pounding. It is only when he is distracted momentarily and she is able to shake him off and get her magic lasso around Kal in order to break Circe’s spell, that she achieves a victory.

Artemis contacts Diana to show her something wonderful – a new Themyscira born from the rubble of the old, recreated by the patron godesses of both Amazonian tribes. They, the Amazons and some of Diana’s human (and alien) allies work to create a new republic which fuses the best of all worlds the Amazons know. Phillipus serves as the chancellor of this new republic, where Aphrodite has ensured that no weapons will ever function again (save one); she gives up her life as a general to fight on a different front. Diana will once more represent Themyscira to the outside world and spread their ideals (of love, equality, respect and peaceful coexistence). Lord Hades arranges for her to have a final meeting with the departed souls of her mother, aunt and namesake Diana Trevor. Trevor Barnes accepts her long-standing dinner invitation. In short, things are looking up for Diana, but life goes on – the JLA need her to help fight off Mangatron in Japan…

Sure enough, when Trinity interfaces with the Skartaris computer core through Cyborgirl, waves of energy pulse outwards, causing people and creatures to de-age and devolve. Trevor Barnes connects with Cyborgirl’s human side, and they are able to show Wonder Woman how to destroy the Trinity virus. Back on Earth, Cassie begins to get to know her father, who seems genuinely apologetic about never getting in contact with her before.

Darrel Keyes has been murdered on the steps of the Amazon embassy, and as violence breaks out between Wonder Woman’s supporters and detractors, all fueled by Doctor Psycho, the ambassador herself is attacked by the Silver Swan. This is her old friend Vanessa Kapatelis, once more controlled and cybernetically augmented by unscrupulous parties. Wonder Woman does not want to hurt her, but fears she may have to. Meanwhile, on Olympus, Zeus has been affected by Eros and is caught by Hera gazing at the amazon Artemis. Hera’s reaction to this is unexpected, even to Ares. In a fit of pique, she sends the whole of Themyscira crashing into the ocean. On Earth, Wonder Woman subdues the Silver Swan and Fallon takes Doctor Psycho off to kill him, as he had been instructed by Veronica Cale.
