THOR v1 #401-500 (1989-1996)
A tale of Thor’s youth. Loki tricksThor into a wager where he must join mortals in an expedition to the new world and not use his powers. Their adventures are frought with danger, of course caused by Loki violating the terms of their wager. Once Thor realizes that Loki has cheated, he uses his powers to save the remaining mortals and returns to extract revenge on Loki. However, Thor has learned that mortals have courage equal to his own and that his own pride was at fault.
Mongoose recruits Quicksand in his quest to get a tissue sample from Thor for his employers. The Enchantress is given the opportunity to save her sister’s life at the cost of her own and refuses. Lorelei is taken into the embrace of Hela. Quicksand attacks the construction site where Thor has resumed his identity as Siguard Jarlson, and draws Thor out. Thor refuses a summons from Asgard since there are mortal lives in danger.
Thor continues to battle Quicksand, while the Mongoose procures a tissue sample. Quicksand retreats as the Enchantress tests the power of the new Executioner. Realizing that it isn’t Skurge, Thor takes the offensive and defeats him. Odin. upset that Thor refused his summons, transports him to Asgard.
Thor explains to Odin why he didn’t heed the summons and Odin is disgusted by his son’s disregard for Asgard. A rash of strange murders lead Thor, Balder and the Warriors Three to investigate. They discover that Annihilus has been absorbing Asgardian lifeforces and attack. However, Annihilus keeps them busy as Asgard slips into the Neutral Zone.
Annihilus defeats Thor and Balder and proceeds to Asgard with his sights set on absorbing Odin’s lifeforce. Meanwhile, Sif pleads to Odin on Thor’s behalf. Thor recovers in time to confront Annihilus before he reaches Odin, but Odin himself steps in and defeats Annihilus. Thor receives Odin’s blessing to return to Earth, because Mongoose has kidnapped Eric Masterson, and Odin empowers Mjolnir with power for one final contact with Asgard, now that it is in the Neutral Zone.
Thor pursues Mongoose to Wundagore where he is attacked by the Knights of Wundagore. During the battle, Thor saves the lives of one of the Knights and the others refuse to continue the battle. Count Tagar reveals that the Mongoose has fled, but that Thor can help them in their quest to rescue the High Evolutinary and Hercules from the Black Galaxy. Thor agrees and Eric Masterson joins them in their Stellar Telejump into the Black Galaxy.
The Recorder joins Thor and company and informs them that the Colonizers has sent a Null Bomb to destroy the Black Galaxy. Thor, always the protector of life, leads his companions to destroy the bomb. Unfortunately, they are attacked by the bio-verse’s antibodies and the Knights of Wundagore are killed. Thor channels the power of the Null Bomb into a dead sun reigniting it. He also manages to free Hercules and the High Evolutionary, although the motives of the Celestial have them puzzled.
Thor and his companions return to Wundagore on Earth. Thor, Eric, and Hercules depart, but are attacked by the Mongoose. Eric sacrifices himself to save Thor’s life. Mongoose flees. Thor uses his last summons to contact Odin and ask him to save Eric. Impressed by his son’s selflessness, Odin merges Eric with Thor, saving his life
Eric struggles to adjust his life balancing in his new alter-ego Thor. A mysterious robot is on rampage and Thor and Hercules investigate. They engage the Time-Bot and learn that it’s master is Dr. Doom. The Time-Bot captures Mjolnir and escapes with Doom, while Thor after sixty seconds reverts back to Eric Masterson.
Hercules convinces Cap to lend him a Quinjet and She-Hulk is asked to tag along. Meanwhile. Doom uses Mjolnir in a time displacer machine to freeze time in Latveria so that he may confront Kristoff and regain control of his country. Hercules, Eric and She-Hulk battle through Doom’s robots to recover Mjolnir and transform Eric back into Thor. With time unfrozen, Doom is forced to withdraw, but he is later approached by a mysterious villain and convinced to join the Acts of Vengeance.
Lokis frees the Juggernaut from prison and sets him loose in New York City. As expected, the Juggernaut’s rampage draws Thor attention. Thor battles valiently, but he’s defeated by the Juggernaut. However, before the Juggernaut can kill Thor, the New Warriors join the battle.

The New Warriors manage to keep the Juggernaut busy, which gives Thor the chance to recover. Thor unleashes all of Mjolnir’s power against the Juggernaut, but it still isn’t enough to stop him. Thor then uses Mjolnir to strand the Juggernaut in deep space
Eric Masterson is frustrated by his duel-life and bothered by disorienting spells of weakness. As Thor, he consult Dr. Strange who intiates the ritual of Inner Questing. Inside Thor’s subconscious mind, they discover a demonic doppleganger that Thor engages. Thor defeats the doppleganger and learns that it was Loki who had planted the spell (see Thor # 398).
Eric Masterson seeks legal counsil in his fight to keep his son. Meanwhile, Hercules, who is haunted by bouts of self-doubt, reluctantly engages Ulik. Thor joins the battle against Ulik who has been powered up by one of Loki’s spells. Thor and Hercules are defeated by Ulik, but a stubborn cop, Marcus Stone, takes down the rock troll.
Eric Materson explores the memories of his alter-ego Thor. He learns why Odin sent Thor to Earth under the guise of the Dr. Donald Blake to teach his son a lesson in humility. He also learns how Dr. Blake first become Thor and how he repel the invasion of the Stone Men.
A mysterious being from the Dark Void arrives on Earth and begins to feed off people. Thor has a run in with the Dweller from the Dark Void, but he escapes. Unfortunately, the Dweller enthralls Hercules and he knocks Eric Masterson out a window.
Eric Masterson recovers his cane before reaching the ground and transforms into Thor. Hercules, under the Dweller’s control, keeps Thor busy long enough for the Dweller to escape with Eric’s love interest Susan. Thor catches up with the Dweller and battles through his minions to reach him. The Dweller changes into energy to escape, but Thor’s hammer Mjolnir absorbs him and Thor redirects the monster into the sun. Unfortunately, Child Welfare shows up and are unimpressed with the mess that Eric’s appartment is in which gives fuel to his ex-wife Marcy’s desire to gain custody of Kevin.
Hercules is still haunted by his defeat at the hands of the Masters of Evil (see Avengers #274-277). The Wrecking Crew free the Wrecker and Ulik from prison and they ambush Hercules. Thor joins the battle, but pretends to be overwhelmed which gives Hercules the inspiration necessary to get him out of the funk he’s in and force the Wrecking Crew to flee.
The Colonizers send the Recorder into the Black Galaxy and he discovers the High Evolutionary. The Celestials’ Replicoid travels to Earth and demands that Thor and Hercules travel to the Black Galaxy. Unfortunately, Stellaris has followed the Replicoid and attacks them both.

The Avengers assemble and help out Thor against Stellaris, who is bent on destroying the Replicoid because it is a creation of the Celestials. They are unable to stop Stellaris from destroying the Replicoid. Stellaris escapes and makes her way to Hercules. Meanwhile in the Black Galaxy, the High Evolutionary attempts to create another race of gods.
Stellaris attacks Hercules, but the Avengers regroup and join the battle. Thor challenges Stellaris to single combat and defeats her. They are forced to let her go when she threatens to self-destruct her armor. With the responsibility of being Thor interfering with his son’s relationship, Eric painfully relinquishes custody of Kevin to his ex-wife.
The High Evolutionary, despite the erratic behavior of his first creation Nobilus, continues his work. Thor and Hercules take a modified Quinjet into space and travel to the Black Galaxy. They are welcomed by the High Evolutionary and introduced to his new race of Gods. Unfortunately, Stellaris has followed them and helps Nobilus escape. Count Tagar, the High Evolutionary’s faithful assistant, jealous of his new creations, emerces himself in the genetic Pool of Knowledge and emerges evolved and mutated.
Stellaris and Nobilus rage against the New Men and they escape. Thor, Hercules pursue them and they are lead to a planetoid where the Celestials are beginning the construction of a new Celestial. Hercules is absorbed by the Celestial armor being constructed. Thor lashes out against the Celestial builder but is blasted with an energy blast that separates Eric Masterson and Thor.
The entire corps of Celestials converge on the Black Galaxy and the High Evolutionary realizes that the entire bio-verse will be the ingredient for the birth of a new Celestial. The construction of the new Celestial armor is complete, and Eric Masterson is chosen as an additional ingredient. Thor tries to interfere by Nobilus stops him. However, Stellaris takes action and launches an all-out assault on the new Celestial, but inadvertantly feeds it the energy needed to complete its «birth».
Thor, Hercules and Eric Masterson return to Asgard, where Ymir and Surtur battle for the honor of destroying the universe. Thor travels to the Sea of Eternal Night in the Dimension of Death, and with a bit of help from Masterson, he retrieves the Twilight Sword. Masterson and Thor join together again and banish Ymir and Surtur to the Sea of Eternal Night.
With order restored to the realm of Asgard, Odin passes on the Odin-power to Heimdall while he replenishes his strength in the Odin-Sleep. Leir challenges Thor for Sif, but she proves to them that she is her own champion. Meanwhile back on Earth, Code Blue successfully rescues a hostage from the clutches of the Wrecking Crew and drives them off.

The homecoming (or: How do you spend the night after you’ve saved the universe?)

Thor resumes his mortal identity as Eric Masterson and has two juggle two love interests Jackie Lukus and Susan Austin. Meanwhile, Loki, who desires the Asgardian power of the Wrecker, dispatches his underlings the Enchantress and Ulik to capture the Wrecking Crew. However, this all draws the attention of Excalibur, who are visiting the States in search of the Juggernaut, as well as Thor and Code Blue. The Wrecker uses the Asgardian magic in his wrecking bar to cast an illusion over Thor and Excalibur attacks him believing him to be the Juggernaut
Code Blue and Excalibur battle the Wrecking Crew and Thor who has a spell cast on him to make him appear to be the Juggernaut. Thor does his best to defend himself since he isn’t aware of the spell, Finally, the Wrecking crew are forced to retreat and the illusion fades. Excalibur ask Thor to help them find the Juggernaut since he was the last to battle him. He transports them into space where he left the Juggernaut stranded, and they are captured by alien soldiers.
Thor and Excalibur learn that they are the captives of the Juggernaut who has set himself up as the dictator of an alien world. However, a band of rebels, the royalty of the monarchy Juggernaut overthrew, free them. Thor goes head-to-head against the Juggernaut and gives him a good beating! Juggernaut is once again exiled into space. Meanwhile back on Earth, Code Blue and the Ghost Rider manage to give the Wrecking Crew a hard time.
Loki meets with Mephisto and an uneasy alliance is agreed upon. Eric’s friends believe that he’s an alcoholic because of all the time he spends as his alter ego. Thor and Ghost Rider take on the Wrecking Crew while Loki sneaks in and one-by-one robs the Wrecking Crew of their Asgardian power. The Wrecking Crew is defeated.
Loki finally gets his long-awaited revenge on the Wrecker as he retrieves all the Asgardian power from him as painfully as possible. Ulik and the Enchantress make their move and kidnap Kevin. Thor takes the bait and engages Ulik in battle. The Enchantress, realizing that Loki plans to kill Thor, wishes to no longer be a part of his scheme and leaves. Thor defeats Ulik and makes his way to Loki!
Thor attacks Loki with Kevin’s life in the balance. Loki is more formidable with the extra power he took from the Wrecking crew. Code Blue manages to rescue Kevin and allow Thor to battle without restraint. Thor defeats Loki, but Loki cowardly blasts Susan who jumps in front of a blast meant for Kevin. Enraged, Thor uses Mjolnir to take Loki’s immortal life. In response, Heimdall banishes Thor who then is caught in Mephisto’s trap. Eric realizes that he can still become Thor, but he retains his own mind
Susan has slipped into a coma due to the injuries she sustained last issue. Ulik, still lurking about after his beating by Thor, attacks Code Blue. Eric joins the battle as Thor, but quickly learns that he’s going to need a lot more experience. Eric gets his act together and gets a new costume. He engages Ulik for round two and defeats him.
Thor meets up with Cap and explains recent events and reveals his secret id. Sif is upset with her brother Heimdall who banished Thor, and pledges to find Thor. Thor travels to Asgard and gets pass the rainbow bridge’s new guardians, the Warriors Three. Thor makes his way through the warriors of Asgard to confront Heimdall and demand Thor’s return. Meanwhile, Annihilus takes advantage of the situation and kidnaps Odin, who sleeps the Odin-sleep.
Heimdall searches the Negative Zone for Odin and with his enhanced senses finds him! Thor suggests that a subtle approach might be in order instead of a full frontal assault as planned. Unfortunately, Thor leads Sif and Balder into Annihilus’ trap. However, they quickly free themselves and make their way past his guards and defense machines. Thor takes on Annihilus and defeats him. Odin is returned to Asgard, and Heimdall returns Thor to Earth where he belongs.
One of Thor’s oldest foes, the Absorbing Man, and its Thor’s job to bring him in. Thor (Masterson)’s first introduction to the Absorbing Man is less than memorable as he is beaten. Thor tries a rematch and fares better until Titania shows up. However, Thor realizes that the Absorbing Man and Titania just want to settle down, and he decides to let them go hoping they’ll stay out of trouble.
Undaunted by Eric’s refusal to be trained by him, Hercules convinces Quasar that Thor is under some kind of spell and he needs to be subdued. Ironically, the Enchantress steps in and puts Quasar under her spell. Quasar and Thor battle it out until Quasar’s quantum bands free him from the Enchantress’ charm. The Enchantress flees from the combined might of Hercules, Quasar, and Thor. A bit perturbed by Hercules’ behavior, Quasar and Thor leave him hanging from the Statue of Liberty!
Zarkko’s Servitor seeks out Dargo, the future Thor, and escorts him to his master for an audience. Eric learns of Marcy’s new husband’s intentions to adopt Kevin. Stellaris, eager for revenge, returns to Earth and attacks Thor. Thor is also attacked by Dargo who has been convinced by Zarkko that he must destroy Thor to save his future time line.
Thor focuses his attention on Dargo, while Stellaris quickly looses interest. Meanwhile, Zarkko is busy absorbing all the mystical energy their hammers are generating in hopes of using it to set himself up as master of time. Beta Ray Bill returns to Earth summoned by the mystical energy being released during the battle between Dargo and Thor. He stops their battle and bands them together to go after Zarkko.
Bill, Thor(Masterson), and Dargo use their hammers to track down Zarkko in the Time Stream. They breach his vessel and are attacked by Thor’s gallery of rogues from the past. Using teamwork, the Thor Corps defeat the enemy forces only to face Zarkko’s last line of defense … Loki!
Loki and Servitor attack the Thor Corps. Dargo defeats the Servitor and uses Zarkko’s machines to learn Thor(Masterson)’s unfortunate future. Meanwhile, Loki defeats Bill and Thor(Masterson) and learns of his death. Loki challenges Zarkko and destroys his Radical Time Stabilizer, which would have merged all of Earth’s timelines. The Thor Corps manage to find their way back to their own times.
Eric meets up with Dr. Blake, who performs the desperately needed surgery on Susan. Eric mulls over his fate as Thor since Blake has return and will probably want to resume his duties as Thor. He confides in Blake and turns over his walking stick to him. However, Blake was an enchantment by Mephisto who disappears with the walking stick.
Eric Masterson seeks Dr. Strange help to retrieve Mjolnir from Mephisto realm. Dr. Strange helps Masterson get there and provides a few mystical weapons that help him along the way. Masterson is outmatched by Mephisto, but Dr. Strange has summoned the Silver Surfer. The Silver Surfer keeps Mephisto busy long enough for Masterson to retrieve Mjolnir. Unfortunately, Masterson sees Thor’s trapped soul, but can’t do anything to help him as Dr. Strange’s spell recalls him from Mephisto’s realm. Masterson gets home only to learn that he’s been evicted from his apartment.
Eric Masterson drops off a last minute present to his son, who is spending Christmas with his mother. Masterson, as Thor, gets involved with a mysterious creature (based on the Grinch) responsible for stealing Christmas gifts. Thor follows the creature and learns that Groonk is actually stealing them for kids that have made their home in the sewers beneath the city. Later, Eric checks in on Susan at the hospital and is overjoyed that she awakens from her coma.
The Avengers get a cold reception from the Shi’ar empire and are attacked by Gladiator. Wonder Man does his best against Gladiator but is quickly taken out. Thor takes his turn and proves equal to the task and strands the Gladiator and seal a Shi’ar stargate.
The Avengers are taken before Lilandra but she refuses to consider their arguments. The Kree Starforce attacks and is met by the Imperial Guard and the Avengers. The Starforce is defeated and Lilandra decides to recall the nega-bomb.
Titania just can’t keep out of trouble and the Absorbing Man gets a hold of Thor and asks him to help scare her current crime spree out of her system. Thor goes along with the idea, but Spider-Man shows up and spoils their fun believing that Thor has joined up with the Absorbing Man.
Spidey and Thor duke it out until Thor’s able to convince Spidey that he isn’t a criminal. They catch up with Titania and the Absorbing Man and battle it out. Fortunately, despite the confusion, everything gets straighten out in the end.
Uroc breaks Ulik out of Ryker’s Island prison despite the efforts of Code Blue and Thor. Thor gets an ominous message from Odin telling him that he’s being held by an impostor playing Heimdall, current ruler of Asgard while Odin was supposed to have been asleep during the Odin-sleep. Meanwhile, the Enchantress conjures up the Executioner’s axe to help her beloved Heimdall against the Queen of the Norns Karnilla as she is secretly conspiring against Asgard. Unfortunately, a mysterious figure gets their hands on it and is forever changed
Thor and Code Blue make their way to Asgard. Thor confronts Heimdall and declares him a traitor, which of course leads to a battle. Their battle is interrupted by Odin who has awakened from his Odin-Sleep. Odin banishes Heimdall and order is restored, or so we’re led to believe. It seems that Karnilla and her mysterious ally have succeeding in conquering Asgard without anyone knowing, except for Thor who is a bit suspicious of how things worked out. Meanwhile, Code Blue descend into the caverns beneath Asgard to recapture Ulik. However, Ulik apparently plunges to his death rather than be recaptured.
Thor returns to Earth with Code Blue and then meets up with Sif and Balder, who still search for the real Thor. Sif learns that Thor may be trapped in Mephisto’s realm and uses the Norn Stones to send herself there alone. Thor and Balder are unable to follow as they must quell Bloodaxe’s rampage. Meanwhile, the Enchantress escapes from Karnilla and travels to the Dream Dimension to rescue Heimdall from the clutches of Nightmare.
Thor and Balder battle with Bloodaxe as he lays waste to a few city blocks. In Asgard, Karnilla strikes at Thor and robs him of his strength. Fortunately, Balder forces Bloodaxe to withdraw. Thor and Balder then make their way to Mephisto’s realm only to discover that Sif has been possessed by Mephisto. Meanwhile, the Enchantress successfully rescues Heimdall from the Dream Dimension and Nightmare.
Thor and Balder are forced to defend themselves from Sif who has fallen under Mephisto’s influence. Sif defeats Balder and Thor is unable to use his full strength on her so he switches back to Eric Masterson. Sif beats on him, but it also snaps her back to her senses. Finally, they open Mephisto’s soul shroud and discover that the soul inside isn’t Thor! Meanwhile back in Asgard, the Warriors Three confront Odin and accuse him of treason
Odin wasn’t impressed with the Warriors Three’s accusations of his treason and sentences them to death. The Enchantress rescues the Warriors Three from their execution and escapes with them. Meanwhile, Mephisto explains to Thor, Sif, and Balder that Loki’s soul took control of Odin’s body having displaced Odin’s helpless soul during the Odin-Sleep.
Thor leads the assault on Asgard and takes on Odin himself. They battle it out while the Enchantress, Balder, and Sif do in Karnilla. The Warriors Three help out Thor long enough for Sif to release Odin’s soul from the Soul Shroud. Odin overwhelms Loki and regains his body. Mephisto makes a quick appearance to claim Loki’s soul.
Thor (Masterson) learns that the real Thor is actually in his own subconscious mind and the process to restore Thor may cost Masterson his life. Thor (Masterson) travels to Earth to think about it and decides to take that chance. Meanwhile, Earth Force and Code Blue, with a bit of help from Dr. Strange, battle Bloodaxe and defeat him, but he escapes.
Eric Masterson accepts the challenge of the Gauntlet of the Grim Guardian and plunges into his subconscious to find Thor. He battles through his great foes to reach and release the real Thor. Thor decides to give Masterson the hammer and accept his responsibilities in Asgard, including an engagement to Sif.
The Enchantress, scorned by Heimdall, tricks Thor (Masterson) and gains control of him and sends him off to confront Thor for Sif’s love. Thor and Thor (Masterson) battle and Sif is injured which provokes the real Thor into a furious rage.
Thor and Thor (Masterson) continue their battle and it rages across Asgard. Odin finally ends the battle and Sif runs to the real Thor’s side. Thor reclaims his hammer and Eric leaves Asgard and Sif behind. However, Odin gives Masterson a new walking stick as a parting gift. He strikes it against the ground and he’s transformed into Thor once again with a new hammer with the following inscription: «The world still needs heroes. Thunderstrike».
Thor does a total about face and breaks off his engagement with Sif. Troubled by his recent incarceration within the mind of Eric Masterson, Thor goes on a few tirades which come to Odin’s attention. Odin «suggests» that he take a journey into deep space to find himself. Thor leaves Asgard and Sif in a viking-style space ship. However, he isn’t alone. The mysterious Valkyrie has joined him for the ride.
In deep space, Thor is seduced by Valkyrie who convinces him of a conspiracy by Odin against him. Meanwhile on Asgard, Sif, who is concerned about Thor, calls upon Beta Ray Bill. They track him down and Thor attacks them believing that they are part of the conspiracy.
Ares and Pluto take advantage of Thor’s madness and attack him. Thor battles without restraint and severly injures Ares, forcing Pluto to withdraw to Olympus
Thor is recruited by the Godess to join her Infinity Crusade. Pluto pleads Zeus to take revenge on Thor for his «attack».
Thor has difficulty adjusting to the Goddess’ crusade and the devotion she demands. Thor is still haunted by the Valkyrie.
The Super Skrull, disgusted with the Goddess’ pacifity, plans to attack the Godess but he is stopped by Thor.
While Thor is locked in savage battle with Drax, Odin tells his assembled warriors a tale of a more passive and understanding Thor.
Sif defends Thor’s honor in Zeus’ court against Pluto. Thor under Valkyerie’s influence falls deeper into anger and plots to destroy Asgard.
Thor, still enthralled by Valkyrie, attacks Sif, who had wanted to help. Thor engages Sif and Beta Ray Bill in battle until interrupted by the Silver Surfer
Tired of waiting for Warlock’s cue, the Infinity Watch take on Thor. Things quickly turn ugly as Moondragon’s mind gem gives the Valkyrie life. Drax coughs up his gem and Thor seizes its power.
Thor and Valkyrie arrive in the outskrits of Asgard and are attacked by Warlock and company. They are unable to stop them but Pip in a desperate attempt teleports them to Thanos’ base of operations.
Dr. S and Warlock convince Odin to try a second time to free Thor of his madness. Odin frees Thor and battles Valkyrie within Thor’s mind. Thor joins the battle and destroys Valkyrie restoring his sanity. Thor thanks all those who helped him.
Thor recovers from his recent ordeal and is asked to take his place at Odin’s right hand. He rejects the offer but Odin is concern about the possibility of Ragnarok and commands the warriors of Asgard to capture Thor. Thor battles his way to freedom and returns to Earth. He joins the Godpack in battle and realizes that he has interfered in the plans of the High Evolutionary.
Thor and Thunderstrike battle the Destroyer and learn that Blake and Garm’s lifeforce power the Destroyer. Blake gains control and they are able to stop the Destroyer.
Thor restores Mjolnir and returns to Asgard to confront Odin for the truth about Blake. The only answer he gets is a battle with Red Norvell that shakes the very foundations of Asgard.
Odin reveals to Thor the truth behind his original exile to Earth and his misuse of Blake.Odin humbly asks Thor to stay at his side in Asgard, but Thor chooses Earth.

Hulk is lead into Hel by Balder to rescue Thor, who has given his word to serve Hela. Thor and Hulk battle it out while Kurse brings Malekith to Hela. Kurse offers his service, and Malekith, in exchange for Thor’s freedom. Hela ends the battle between the Hulk and Thor and announces that she has freed Thor from his vow.
Thor, enraged over Eric Masterson’s death, storms into Asgard despite Odin’s edict preventing him from entering the Golden City. Unfortunately, Odin doesn’t even listen to him and expels him from Asgard. Frustrated that Odin would do nothing, Thor visits Masterson’s grave and finds the Absorbing Man. After a brief battle, the Absorbing Man explains that he was just paying his respects to Masterson.
Thor, sick, dying, and abandoned by Odin is attacked by strange automatons that lead him to a complex that is drawing the life from Yggdrasil.

Beta Ray Bill is struck by the same ailment that debilitates Thor. Thor reconciles with the Enchantress since both are exiles on Earth. A British detective Curzon investigates the attack on Thor.
Curzon walks us through Norse Mythology. Thor gets it on with the Enchantress and together they set out to stop whoever is tampering with Yggdrasil.
Thor and Enchantress confront Price and learn of his Worldengine. Price’s machenery has convinced the World Ash that Ragnarok has occurred and it produces post-Ragnarok humans. However, they quickly die because the environment the World Ash created them to exist within, a fiery realm that had consumed Asgard, doesn’t exist. Thor destroys the machinery and frees the World Ash.
Thor and the Enchantress spend a romantic evening together only to awaken the next morning to find that the Enchantress has loss all her magic. Thor takes a walk and prevents a young lady from being kidnapped from some thugs. After the battle the Avengers show up and ask him to return to their ranks.
Thor meets up with a couple of pathetic vigilantes hoping to make a name for themselves by defeating Thor, who they believe is powerless. Unfortunately for them, Thor has his powers back temporarily (thanks to the Leader in Hulk #440) and teaches them a valuable lesson. Afterwards, Thor notices a drunk with a striking resemblance to his father Odin.
Thor is hired to protect a family who has a mysterious sword, with apparent ties to Norse mythology, in its possession. Thor successfully protects an unknown enemy’s agents from getting their hands on either the sword or the family. Thor does meet the drunk he believes to be his father. Meanwhile, the man behind all of this is Loki and he finally gets the sword. Thor confronts him and then a drunken Odin grabs the sword and everyone is transported to a mystical realm.
Thor and company find themselves in a strange realm based on the epic operas of Wagner. Thor confronts the «Odin» and «Thor» of this realm and when he kills the «Odin», they’re snapped back to reality. However, this reality turns out to be an Asgard in ruins
Thor and company now find themselves in Asgard and it is in ruins. Thor battles through trolls to Dr. Strange and a few Asgardians. Strange explains that he got involved when the Enchantress got a hold of him when Thor had disappeared (issue #498) and learned that it actually was the Mad Thinker who had plunged them into the Wagnerian realm. Strange then tracked them to Asgard where he found himself powerless and was taken captive by the trolls. Thor and company then protect the ruins of Asgard from a Frost Giant attack. Thor finds the mystical sword and when he pulls it from Yggdrasil it fades away and his powers and hammer are restored.

Thor is back on Earth and is in search of the gods of Asgard since they were expelled when Yggdrasil believed that Ragnarok had finally come. Thor searches for Red Norvell and finds him. Red fills him in on recent events like becoming a version of Thor. They decide to search for the gods of Asgard together.
On the eve of the final battle with Onslaught, Thor and Red Norvell spend a bit of time reminiscing. Jane Foster shows up and does a bit of catching up with Thor. Hela appears to Thor offering him an easy out, but he refuses and prepares for battle.
